Apple says jailbreaking iPhones could pose national security threats

by Uncle Sha30th Jul 2009

jailbreaking iPhones

Well there has been reports that by jailbreaking your Apple, you’re allowing hackers to alter the phone’s baseband processor call the BBP chip. And it is these chips that enables the phone to connect to cell towers.

Holy crap, yes the revelation was revealed via Apple. Check out the PDF. Yes people you’re committing a ‘jihad’ of sorts, haha.

Apple added that such action would be the cause of AT&T network unreliability, and weapon of mass wireless disruption by taking down AT&T wireless cell towers.

The iPhone maker states, “More pernicious forms of activity may also be enabled. For example, a local or international hacker could potentially initiate commands (such as a denial-of-service attack) that could crash the tower software, rendering the tower entirely inoperable to process calls or transmit data. In short, taking control of the BBP software would be much the equivalent of getting inside the firewall of a corporate computer – to potentially catastrophic result.”

Also jailbreaking it seems allows the iPhone’s unique Exclusive Chip Identification (ECID) to be altered, resulting in phone calls to be made anonymously. Those who have jailbreak their iPhone, have also been reported by Apple to run the risk of high drop-call rate and bad 3G performance.

Well what do you think. Should you jailbreak your iPhones? Why not just Apple allow iPhone owners the ability to use and run apps not authorized by Apple. It would make things a whole lot easier.
